Revisiting a Trip from Last Summer
Last summer, in July and August of 2019, I went on a wonderful trip to Spain! I had never visited before, but I speak some Spanish, so I was excited to go.
Our trip started with a day in Madrid, a few days in Mallorca, a stop in Barcelona, and then back to Madrid to finish. We basically went to the highlights! My favorite, which I had anticipated, was Mallorca!
In Madrid we did a lot of walking, trying to get a grasp of our surroundings which was fairly difficult to do because of all the alleyways. We visited the Prado which had many famous works of art. We also walked around the gardens near the museum which were beautiful in summer.
In Mallorca we mainly relaxed. We initially had around an hour car ride from the airport to the west side of the island, but once completing that trip, we pretty much stayed where we were. We stayed in Deia which was a charming town! One day we went to Deia’s beach, which was breathtaking, but not easy for swimming due to all of the rocks. We were content with just taking in all of the beauty! We also had the chance to view the beach from above, since we had lunch from a cute little restaurant right near the water. I highly recommend having lunch at one of the restaurants on the beach. I definitely want to visit Mallorca again!
Our next stop was Barcelona. Similarly to Madrid, we did a lot of walking, and we tried to navigate different routes through the narrow streets. We visited the Gaudi park, which gave a great view of the city. Additionally, we visited the Sagrada Familia which was fascinating. Be sure to get some espadrilles in Barcelona, there are many shops, and they are such fun reminder of the city.
On our second round of Madrid we walked around some more, and shopped at Spanish stores. It was helpful to come back o Madrid because we had a better understanding of restaurants and activities from visiting there at the beginning of the trip.
I am so happy I got to visit Spain, and practice my Spanish while enjoying the different cities!
